Sets the goal of economic decarbonization in Michigan by 2050

As Michigan continues the long-term transition toward a cleaner energy future, the Energy Transition Impact Project (ETIP) was established to bring all levels of government and the financial resources to these efforts to ensure the people of these communities chart a new course that will help them thrive in new and innovative ways.

Energy Transition Impact Project

All existing buildings and facilities owned and operated by the State reduce energy use by 40% by 2040.

State-Owned Buildings and Facilities Energy Use Reduction Target

All new buildings and facilities owned and operated by the State, and all major renovations of such buildings and facilities, are carbon neutral by 2040.

Plan for Zero Net Energy Targets for State Facilities

Michigan will aim to achieve economy-wide carbon neutrality no later than 2050, and to maintain net negative greenhouse gas emissions thereafter. To ensure steady progress toward this ultimate statewide goal, and to prevent irreparable harm to our ecosystem, residents, and businesses in the interim, the state will aim to achieve a 28% reduction below 2005 levels in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
