MI Healthy Climate Plan

This plan lays out a broad vision for fulfilling the governor's commitment for Michigan to achieve economy-wide carbon neutrality by 2050 - the global science-based benchmark for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to avoid the most devastating and costly impacts of climate change. The plan focuses on actions between now and 2030 to tackle environmental injustices, clean the electric grid, electrify our transportation sector, repair and decarbonize our buildings, encourage innovation in industry, and protect Michigan's land and water.

The Plan strongly emphasizes environmental justice to ensure Michigan’s climate strategies uplift every portion of the state, including individuals and communities that have borne the brunt of climate impacts and are at the greatest risk of being left behind in the transition ahead. It also spotlights decarbonization strategies that will yield significant health, economic, and other benefits. 

The Plan is meant to identify what needs to happen for Michigan to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 with a prioritization on actions from now until 2030. It focuses most heavily on the areas where the biggest, most rapid gains in GHG reductions can be made – energy, transportation, and buildings.

Per the Healthy Climate Plan, Michigan should aim for electric models to account for and 100 percent school buses sold in 2030.

- $3.5M will support clean development, climate planning through MiNextCities pilot project in Dearborn, Flint, Marquette.

Grants to small manufacturers for energy efficiency projects

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Energy Services is offering matching grants for projects that improve the efficiency of processes for small manufacturing companies (<500 employees worldwide) physically located in Michigan.

MI Future Mobility Plan

Broken down into three key pillars, the MI Future Mobility Plan lays out specific goals that will help create a stronger state economy through safer, more equitable and environmentally sound transportation for all Michiganders:

Pillar 1: Transition and Grow our Mobility Industry and Workforce 
Goal: Achieve strong employment growth in mobility and automotive focused sectors by creating 20K new jobs by 2026 while increasing the median wage of mobility sector jobs.
Goal: Add 7,000 workers with mobility credentials by 2030, while increasing diversity of the sector’s workforce.
Goal: Ensure Michigan maintains a resilient automotive and parts manufacturing sector that supports at least 170,000 jobs through 2030.

Pillar 2: Provide Safer, Greener and More Accessible Transportation Infrastructure – 
Goal: By 2030, deploy 100,000 electric vehicle chargers to support 2 million electric vehicle and improve access to H2 infrastructure.
Goal: Maintain at least 80% of electric vehicle charging off-peak to minimize impacts to the grid.
Goal: Reduce congestion and traffic crash rates statewide by 2026.
Goal: Provide residents with consistent access to mobility-as-a-service options across Michigan’s 77 transit agencies by 2025.

Pillar 3: Lead the World in Mobility and Electrification Policy and Innovation
Goal: Maintain #1 state ranking for mobility and electrification research and development spending.
Goal: Become a top 10 state for growth in venture capital funding by 2026.
Goal: Become a top 10 state for federal investments related to mobility and vehicle electrification.
Goal: Lead the nation in electric and automated vehicle friendliness through responsive policies.

The objectives of the EGLE, Small Manufacturers Retooling Program are to achieve meaningful energy and cost savings by enhancing the process efficiency of Michigan small manufacturing facilities, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the resiliency of Michigan small manufacturing facilities through process improvements that reduce energy input per unit produced. Project successes will be disseminated after project completion to accelerate the adoption of process efficiency technologies and best practices by Michigan’s manufacturing sector.

A minimum of $75,000 in funding is expected to be available, and the maximum funding amount per applicant is $25,000. All applicants must provide a minimum 50 percent (1:1) match of the total requested grant funds.
