Executive Order N-35-25 to Expand Use of Beneficial Fire

Governor Newsom signed an executive order doubling down on California’s commitment to fire prevention by expanding the state’s use of beneficial fire — also known as prescribed burns and cultural fire — as a tool to reduce catastrophic wildfire risk. The Governor’s executive order helps strengthen and build on California’s wildfire prevention strategy by accelerating funding and projects, expanding local participation, working with tribal communities, increasing education and data, and mitigating air quality risks from beneficial fire projects.
