California Greenhouse Gas Emissions from 2000 to 2022

Each year the California Air Resources Board (CARB) produces the Assembly Bill (AB) 32 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory (Inventory) which estimates anthropogenic emissions within California, as well as emissions associated with imported electricity. The Inventory is one tool to track progress of California’s climate programs toward achieving statewide greenhouse gas (GHG) targets. This document summarizes the trends in emissions and indicators in the Inventory. The emissions included in the Inventory represent actual emissions released into the atmosphere from the AB 32 sectors. 1 The 2024 edition of the Inventory includes GHG emissions released during the 2000–2022 calendar years and includes several technical updates.
