Strong Communities, Better Connections Grants Awarded

In a new collaboration to support vibrant community centers and increase in town and regional transportation options, the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) and the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) are pleased to announce the Strong Communities, Better Connections (SCBC) Pilot Grant Program has funded three projects that help align land use planning and community revitalization efforts with transportation investments. 

The Better Connections Program is a partnership between the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), the Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD), the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

The Better Connections Program provides technical assistance and funds to local communities to help them achieve their goals and plan for growth.  The program funds planning efforts to increase multi-modal transportation options and to improve land use, water quality, public health, and economic vitality in Vermont communities.  The interagency program provides targeted municipal assistance to:

- help communities identify and prioritize their goals and projects;
- develop an action-oriented plan to achieve the goals and move projects directly to implementation; and
- link the communities to a growing network of public and philanthropic partners to help them implement their priority projects.

Resilience Implementation Strategy

The Strategy will build off the considerable work done to date across State Government to identify and prioritize climate resilience needs and evaluate the sufficiency of currently available funding. The Strategy will incorporate extensive stakeholder engagement and will also recommend criteria for allocating state support for climate change resilience projects and approaches for funding implementation efforts on an on-going basis.

H.0095: The Vermont Housing and Conservation Trust Fund

The National Housing Trust Fund (HTF) is a federal affordable housing production program that complements existing Federal, State, and local efforts to increase and preserve the supply of decent, safe, and sanitary affordable housing for extremely low- and very low-income households, including homeless families and individuals.

In partnership with a statewide network of private and non-profit organizations, the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board funds the development of permanently affordable housing, land conservation initiatives, and the restoration of historic properties.
