Shapiro Administration Announces New Grant Opportunities to Fight Hunger and Prevent Food Waste

Governor Shapiro announced that Food Recovery Infrastructure Grants up to $50,000 would be available to non-profit organizations to fund equipment (refrigerators, freezers, refrigerated vehicles, etc.) to reduce the amount of fresh and processed food entering the waste stream and make it available to the public. This program will help reduce the amount of food sent to landfills, thus reducing landfill methane emissions

The Food Recovery Infrastructure Grant is a reimbursable grant for equipment to help registered nonprofit organizations operating in PA to reduce the amount of fresh and processed foodstuffs entering the waste stream

Shapiro Administration Announces First-in-PA Registered Apprenticeship Program to Plug Abandoned Oil and Gas Wells

Governor Shapiro and the United Mine Workers of America announced a new, first-in-Pennsylvania registered apprenticeship program to train workers to plug oil and gas wells, helping to protect the environment and public health while providing workers with in-demand skills and family-sustaining wages.

Provides workers with the knowledge to plug abandoned and orphaned wells that have the potential to cause health, safety, or environmental concerns and to mitigate harmful emissions and provide an economic boost to rural Appalachian communities transitioning away from fossil fuel economies. 

In Pennsylvania, there are 27,000 abandoned and orphaned wells and approximately 350,000 undocumented abandoned wells

Request for Information: Proposed Clean Energy Campus Projects on Commonwealth-Owned Abandoned Mine Lands

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued a Request for Information (RFI) to those interested in submitting concept papers on the need for the Design, Development, Commercialization and Maintenance of Clean Energy Campus (CEC) Projects on Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) controlled by the Commonwealth. The RFI also solicits initial feedback on usage of LPO's Title 17 Clean Energy Financing Program.
