New Jersey Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan

Building on the 2021 Statewide Climate Change Resilience Strategy, the Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan focuses on mitigating the effects of extreme heat, one of the deadliest impacts of climate change. 

While addressing activities across the full range of the foundational policy priorities outlined in the Resilience Strategy, the plan heavily prioritizes building resilient and healthy communities and strengthening the resilience of New Jersey’s ecosystems.

The plan is made up of 133 actions, organized thematically into twenty focus areas and further organized to align with the priorities outlined in the foundational policy framework of New Jersey’s Climate Change Resilience Strategy. Action commitments address the activities completed, underway, or recommended in individual agencies, as well as efforts that cut across several state agencies.

New Jersey's Energy Efficiency (EE) framework aims to provide equitable access to energy efficiency programs for all residents and businesses, regardless of location, while supporting decarbonization efforts. It focuses on lowering energy costs, particularly for low-income and disadvantaged communities, ensuring they benefit equally from EE investments. The framework also emphasizes transparency in reporting, reducing program and administrative costs, and enhancing job opportunities and economic benefits across the state.

NJEDA to Open Applications for Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge

Applications for the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s (NJEDA) Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge will open on Thursday, August 8. The $7 million grant program will prepare New Jersey residents for green economy careers, with a particular focus on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion and serving overburdened communities. The Grant Challenge is a competitive funding opportunity, for which applicants will be asked to submit proposals that outline their plans to develop and implement workforce training and skills programs focused on strengthening and diversifying the state’s green economy. Grants from $250,000 up to $1.5 million are available. Awardees may use funds to cover design, planning, capital, and implementation costs to offer training programs in green economy industries.

New Jersey Solar For All

Awarded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through its Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund: Solar for All program, this investment will enable the NJBPU New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to support solar access for multifamily affordable housing; establish pathways to residential solar ownership for low-income disadvantaged community (LIDAC) households; expand community solar initiatives; and support solar workforce development and enable critical grid upgrades to support more solar generation in New Jersey. New Jersey’s Solar for All award is anticipated to enable the State to deploy more than 175 MW of solar energy to benefit 22,000 overburdened households within the first five years of funding. Additionally, the award has the potential to result in 240,000 short tons of CO2 emission reductions, approximately $250 million in total energy bill savings over 30 years for residents in newly connected households and enable 90 MWh of associated storage through the NJBPU’s multifamily solar program.
