Greenhouse Gas Monitoring and Reporting Rule: Final

The GHGMR Rule addresses gaps in NJDEP’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory specific to methane emission sources and halogenated gases. This rule was adopted to establish a greenhouse gas monitoring and reporting program in accordance with the Global Warming Response Act (GWRA) (P.L. 2007 c. 112 and P.L. 2018 c. 197) to help meet New Jersey’s ambitious 2030 and 2050 emissions reduction goals.

Facilities with a refrigeration system and/or chillers requiring 50 pounds or more of a high-GWP refrigerant are required to register their facility, keep records of their refrigerant usage, and report that information to the state. This information is used by the state to calculate emissions from maintenance of and leaks from these sources.

NJEDA Board Approves New Program to Support EV Infrastructure

A new clean energy program aimed to increase electric vehicle charging stations across the state was approved by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) Board last week. The $50 million Take Charge Program will provide funding for charging infrastructure projects for private commercial fleets, helping bring more electric vehicles onto New Jersey’s roadways.

The Take Charge Program will help cover the costs, including hardware and related installation costs, of establishing electric vehicle charging infrastructure for private commercial fleets. Private fleets interested in adopting electric vehicles require consistently available and reliable charging infrastructure but often face high costs for installation and site upgrades necessary for charger operation.

RETROFIT NJ Program

The Reducing Emissions through Retrofits, Optimization, Fuel-switching, and Innovative Technologies (RETROFIT NJ) Grant Program is a $75 million pilot program launched by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) to provide financial assistance to multi-pronged, large-scale retrofit projects that enable holistic energy improvements at buildings, campuses, and multi-building facilities.

The NJEDA will provide grant awards ranging from $2.5 to $12.5 million to reimburse applicants for eligible hard and soft construction costs, including design, equipment, construction, and commissioning from projects that significantly reduce carbon emissions, serve as replicable models, accelerate New Jersey’s clean energy transition, and stimulate economic growth in the clean energy industry

This pilot is funded by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) proceeds allocated to the NJEDA and will accelerate the adoption of more environmentally friendly building systems, technologies, and construction practices within New Jersey.

The Take Charge program is a $25 million pilot program launched by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) to help private fleets cover the cost of installing charging infrastructure in New Jersey. The NJEDA will provide grant awards ranging from $100,000 to $5 million to reimburse applicants for at least 50% of eligible project costs.

This pilot is funded by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) proceeds allocated to NJEDA and will accelerate the adoption of zero-emission transportation solutions in New Jersey.
